Roman Polanski Arrested

After about 30 years on the run from U.S. authorities, legendary director Roman Polanski ("Rosemary's Baby," "Chinatown," "The Pianist") has finally been arrested in Zurich, Switzerland by authorities there, who decided to take matters into their own hands, with the possibility of being extradited to the U.S. It's been that long since Polanski was accused of having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl. After being arrested at the time, Roman Polanski, out on bail, bounced to his secret hide-out in France never to return.

This is a pretty sticky situation for the 72-year-old maker of films who has been ditching this matter while living it up lavishly making movies and drinking wine. But now we're left with a dilemma: does our justice system brush this under the carpet? Would it be right for this man to not pay his dues to society? The bottom line is that he drugged and raped a 13-year-old, who is now in her mid-forties and has actually forgiven him.

I dunno. In one hand, there are way worst things happening in this world. But on the other hand, the man has been on the run and the only reason why he's getting any sympathy is because he's a famous director of films. We'll have to wait and see just what happens. Will his case of "hey, it happened over 30 years ago" hold any water? Isn't there a statue of limitation law or something?

I dunno. All I know is that he's in a bad spot and it's just a weird situation in general. While the answer is moralistically obvious (the man raped a 13-year-old child) how will his stardom weigh in on this? And should it?

  1. It is about time!!! There is no doubting this man's talent. Superb film-maker. His place in the pantheon of cinema greats is celebrated the world over. But, like MJ & OJ, he needs to stand trial. Let the justice system do its part. If found innocent set him free. No problem. But something to think about: why pursue MJ & OJ like rabid dogs and then let this guy walk for over 30yrs.

Three Dominicans in a brand new Caddy caused the policeman to pull them over and line them up for questioning. The guy(of Mexican descent) that killed a fellow Marine he impregnated while having an extra-marital affair with: he fled to Mexico and his Mexican-American ass was in custody and extradited back to US soil facing justice in lickety split no time. America's patriots work, sacrifice, protect, and fight to safeguard the country's soil and freedom to be rewarded by libelous allegations of wrong-doing, violating conventions, and even accusations of prior knowledge of the horrific attacks of 11SEPT01. They’re subjected to courts-martial, demotions, incarceration, alienation, stigmas, threats of legal action, investigations, names being sullied, dismissals, etc.

Madoff charismatically bilks (is 'allowed to bilk' I prefer to think) people of their lifelong savings and their retirement funds for ages and nobody does anything about it even after flags were raised as to the efficacy of his great ROI's (return on investments). This guy Polanski is allowed to thumb his nose at justice for over 30yrs by jumping from country to country avoiding extradition and not one of these countries he’s using as a hop-scotch board see anything wrong with that.

Why the disparity in justice being meted out?!?!!! What is at play here?
